Fillers

Dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin in selected areas. A consultation considers your anatomy, the change you have in mind, and whether an injectable treatment is appropriate.

A considered discussion of shape and volume

Bring the concerns you notice rather than a predetermined amount of filler. Discuss prior injections, allergies, medicines and your health history. Ask about the proposed product, the area being treated and reasonable alternatives.

Understand the procedure and its limits

Fillers are injected medical devices. Swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur, and effects vary by product and treatment area. Rare but serious complications include injection into a blood vessel, which can cause tissue injury, vision loss or stroke. A risk discussion is an essential part of deciding.

Plan before and after treatment

Ask for instructions tailored to the product and your treatment, including what to do if you notice an unexpected change. Share any history of cold sores or prior reactions. Do not change prescribed medicines without advice from the clinician who manages them.

Treatment questions

Are fillers the same as wrinkle-relaxing injections?

No. Fillers add volume; wrinkle-relaxing injections reduce selected muscle activity. A consultation helps clarify which, if either, fits your concern.

Can I choose an amount from a photograph?

A photograph can help explain your preferences, but it cannot establish an appropriate product, amount or treatment area. Those decisions require an individual assessment.

Are results permanent?

Duration depends on the material, treatment area and individual response. Ask about the specific product’s expected course and limitations before deciding.
